Google Shopping: 3 ways to optimise your shopping ads

Google Shopping is a necessary form of online advertising for webshops. Over the last few years, more and more companies have been added that use the channel to thank them. A shopping ad is used to promote products in Google’s search results. As a result, the ads generate more traffic to websites and stimulate sales. Because Google Shopping effectively optimises your shopping ads, thousands of companies use it. The result is thousands of companies competing for a spot with their ad on the first page of Google. Because it’s not easy to stand out from the competition with your shopping ads, in this article, we give you three tips to optimise them as best as possible.

1 Product Title

With the product title in your shopping ad, you can make it clear to Google which product it is all about. Google knows when to show the product to potential buyers with this information. The product title is also of great importance to the people looking for a product. Tell them what they can expect from your product based on the product title.

For these reasons, it is essential to use the 150 characters you have for your product title as conveniently as possible. Make sure you name not only the product but also other relevant information such as the keyword, colours, sizes, and materials. Tip: please note that Google has a heavier weight for the search results of the words that appear earlier in the product title.

2 – Product description

Although product descriptions are not visible in Shopping ads, they are critical. This is because Google looks at your products’ product descriptions and pictures better. In addition, your product descriptions can be found in the Google Shopping tab. So make sure your product description is short and clear. Return a few keywords and name your company’s most important USP.

3 Afbeeldingen

Outside the product title and price, the images in Shopping Ads will most affect whether or not potential customers will click on your product. As shown in the example below, many advertisers use a white background with their product photos. You might think: Less is more, so you can choose a quiet white location. But what if you give your product photos a background colour that’s different from the competitors? By providing your product with a different background colour, you can make sure that the ad is just a little bit more noticeable, making potential customers more likely to choose for you.

How do I change the background colour of my product photos?

Do you want to stand out with your shopping ads by adding a background colour to your product photos? Then it’s helpful to know how to do it quickly. Following these steps, add a background colour to your existing product photos using Photoshop.

  1. 1. Download the product photos you want to customise from the backend of your website.
  2. 2. Open Adobe Photoshop.
  3. 3. Click File, and then click Open and select the image you just saved in your files and want to start editing.
  4. 4. Use the Quick Selection button to select the entire product on the image (you don’t take the background with you).

5. Control c button and then control v button.

6. Remove the old layer (background) at the bottom right by clicking on the layer and then the delete button on your keyboard.

7. Now click on the new layer you created (layer 1)

8. Use the Rectangle button to create a rectangular plane over the entire image.

9. Now drag layer one up so that it is above rectangle 1.

10. Give the rectangular plane the desired colour.

11. Click File, Export, Export as, Export again, and save the edited image to your files.

12. Go back to the backend of your webshop and upload the product photo you just edited and saved instead of the product photo that did not have a background colour.

With the above steps, you create custom shopping ads that will help you stand out from the competition. Are you ready for more conversions? Make sure you have enough products in stock!
